Basics About Phone Calls through Microsoft Teams

Your desktop phone will be replaced with using Teams on your computer for making phone calls.  Though the technology is changing, you will still have all of the same functions.  The chart below highlights a few of the changes and the steps below will walk you through the basics of using Teams for calls.

Calls Through Teams

1.  Extension numbers are going away

Extension numbers are obsolete with our new Teams call system.  Your extension will be replaced with a unique phone number, i.e. 715-234-xxxx

2.  Call someone within the WITC organization

If the person you want to reach is in your contacts list, go to Calls phone icon, Click Contacts, find the person you want to call, and then click Call phone icon

3. Dial a phone number to outside of WITC organization from Teams

To dial a number from Teams, go to Calls phone icon, click Dial a number, and then enter the number of the person you want to reach by using the dial pad.  Then click Call phone icon

4.  Answer a call in Teams

When someone calls you, you'll get a notification that lets you accept or decline the call.

  • Click Accept with audio phone icon to answer with audio-only
  • Click Accept with video video icon to accept the call and enable video as well
  • Click Decline call decline icon to decline the call and go on with your day

5. Call someone you called before

If you've called people before (or if they've called you), they'll be in your call history.  In History, select More actions more options icon to the right of the person's name, then click Call back.

6.  Access your voicemail through Teams

You can also access your voicemail and call people from that list. In Voicemail, select More actions more options icon to the right of the person's name, then click Call back.

7.  Add someone to a call in Teams

To add someone new to a group call, select Show participants participants icon in your call controls, then type their name or phone number in the search box.
